About Alpine Air

We're a local HVAC contractor based in Williamsburg, Ontario, serving the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) and the surrounding area — including Winchester, Morrisburg, Chesterville, Iroquois, Finch, Long Sault, Alexandria, Maxville, Lancaster, Embrun, and the communities in between.
Yes. Our technicians are trained and certified to install and service heating and cooling equipment, and we carry full insurance. Gas and refrigeration work is completed to the applicable Ontario codes and standards.
Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency service for no-heat and no-cool situations. During an Eastern Ontario cold snap we prioritize no-heat calls, and as a local company we can usually reach most of SD&G quickly.
We service all major heating and cooling brands, including Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, and others. You don't need to have purchased your system from us for us to repair or maintain it.
Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Emergency service is available outside those hours.

Pricing & Quotes

Quotes for new installations and replacements are free. We assess your home, explain your options, and give you an upfront, written price with no obligation.
For repair calls we charge a diagnostic fee to find out what's wrong. If you proceed with the repair, that fee is applied toward the cost of the work. We always give you upfront pricing before starting any repair.
Always. We provide upfront pricing before any repair or installation begins, so you can make an informed decision. We don't start work — or add charges — without your approval.
For larger projects like a new furnace or heat pump, ask us about payment options when you book your quote and we'll walk you through what's available for your situation.
It depends on your home's size, the equipment you choose, and your existing setup, so the honest answer is that it varies. The best way to get a real number is a free in-home quote, where we can see your home and give you an accurate written price.

Heating: Furnaces & Boilers

Confirm the thermostat is set to heat and above room temperature, check that the filter isn't clogged, and make sure the furnace power switch and breaker are on. If those are fine and it's still blowing cold, shut it down and call us — continuing to run it can make some problems worse.
A well-maintained furnace typically lasts about 15 to 20 years in our climate. Annual maintenance and clean filters make a real difference; neglected units often fail years earlier.
If your furnace is under about 15 years old and the repair is minor, repair usually makes sense. For older units, or expensive repairs like a cracked heat exchanger, replacement is often the better value. We give you an honest recommendation based on your specific unit — never a pressure sell.
Yes, we service boiler and hydronic heating systems. If you're not sure what type of system you have, give us a call and describe it — we can usually tell you over the phone.
Short-cycling can be caused by a clogged filter, an oversized furnace, a thermostat issue, or airflow and venting problems. It wastes fuel and wears out the furnace, so it's worth diagnosing — we can pinpoint the cause.

Cooling: AC & Mini-Splits

The most common causes are low refrigerant, a clogged condenser coil, a dirty filter restricting airflow, or a failing capacitor. Low refrigerant in particular is the number-one cause of 'running but not cooling,' and it needs a technician to diagnose properly.
In spring — ideally April or May, before the first heat wave. A spring tune-up catches problems in cool weather when they're cheaper to fix and before you're depending on the system. Our calendar fills up fast once summer hits.
A properly maintained central AC usually lasts about 12 to 15 years in our climate. Skipping maintenance, or letting the outdoor condenser stay clogged, shortens that noticeably.
A ductless mini-split delivers heating and cooling directly to a room or zone without ductwork, using a small indoor unit connected to an outdoor unit. They're a great fit for older homes, additions, and rooms that are always too hot or too cold. No ducts required.
A frozen coil or water leak is often caused by low refrigerant, a dirty filter, or a clogged condensate drain line. A clogged drain is also the most common cause of water damage from AC. Turn the system off to let it thaw and call us before it damages ceilings or floors.

Heat Pumps

Yes — a properly sized, cold-climate heat pump keeps SD&G homes warm through our winters. Modern cold-climate units hold most of their capacity down to around -25°C, and backup heat (electric or your existing furnace) covers the coldest nights. The failures people hear about are almost always sizing or installation problems, not the technology itself.
On the handful of nights that dip toward or below -25°C, backup heat takes over automatically — either electric backup or, in a dual-fuel system, your existing furnace. The heat pump handles the vast majority of the winter, and you're never left cold.
No. A dual-fuel (hybrid) system pairs a heat pump with your existing furnace and switches between them automatically. For many SD&G homes — especially propane-heated ones — that's the smartest and often cheapest way to add a heat pump.
Yes. A heat pump is essentially a two-way air conditioner — it heats in winter and cools in summer. Adding a heat pump typically replaces your air conditioner, so you get both heating and cooling from one system.
For homes heating with propane or oil, running an efficient heat pump for most of the season usually cuts heating costs, sometimes significantly. Against cheap natural gas the savings are smaller. The right comparison depends on your fuel and rates — we can run the numbers for your home.
Rebate programs for heat pumps have generally been available through federal, provincial and utility, and oil-to-heat-pump programs — but amounts and eligibility change often, and the order you do things matters. Confirm current details before you buy, or call us and we'll tell you what's active and help keep your options open.

Maintenance & Scheduling

Once a year for each — a heating check in the fall and a cooling check in the spring. Annual maintenance catches small problems before they become emergencies, keeps efficiency up, and helps protect your equipment warranty.
For most homeowners here, yes. A plan covers your annual tune-ups, gives you priority scheduling when something goes wrong, and usually includes discounts on parts and repairs. It also means we call you to schedule — you don't have to remember.
For a standard 1-inch filter, every 1 to 3 months — more often if you have pets or during heavy-use months. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of both furnace and AC problems, and it's the easiest thing to get right.
We often have same-day availability, and emergency no-heat and no-cool calls are prioritized. The busiest times are the first cold snap and the first heat wave, so booking maintenance ahead of the season means you're not waiting when everyone calls at once.
